Many of you may have noticed little improvements here and there around the course as the Beautification Committee (of two – Alice Langill and Margie Welin) have been adding their touch to the various gardens and grounds around the course – anything from plants and flowerbeds to general aesthetics and landscaping. If you see them, be sure to thank them for their efforts in helping our course look more appealing – better yet, offer to give them a hand! The ladies will also notice Margie’s handiwork in the club storage building, where she has completely re-done the ladies locker room – everything from repairing the walls, to painting them, to getting new paper towel dispensers, to reupholstering the chair – awesome!
On a somewhat similar vein – that being the presentation of our club – we ask that all smokers adhere to the policy of not smoking within 3 metres of an entrance. Please be courteous and use the new butt can provided in the designated smoking area on the right end of the deck (closest to the Pro Shop).
Keep your suggestions and comments coming – we’re listening! You’ve asked for it and it’s back – fish and chips are on the menu and we’ve had nothing but good reviews. Drop in for lunch and enjoy lunch on the deck. Looking for a place to have a section mug-out or function? Why not have it at the club – we’ve got great prices and a nice relaxed atmosphere. Who knows, maybe you can even convince the boss to partake in a game of golf … See you soon.

Apologies for not updating this earlier, but for those that are still wondering, carts are allowed back on the course, all 18 holes are in play, and regular rates apply. Thanks for your patience as we worked around Mother Nature’s design.

Well, the course is playable but still wet. You’ll have to navigate around some wet areas, but it promises to be a gorgeous day so don’t let that small distraction take away from your game. For those paying Green Fees, we’re applying our Twilight Rate all day (see the Rates page). Due to the wet conditions and to preserve the condition of the course, it’s walking only again today; no carts will be permitted – as soon as it’s safe to do so, we’ll let them out – promise! We’re sure you’ll appreciate this precautionary approach in the coming days since the weather promises to be awesome and there’s lot’s of great golfing in the weeks ahead. Be sure to smile and say hi to the girls in the Pro Shop – see you on the course.

Well, the water’s down about 6 inches but the course is still pretty wet so there still no carts permitted on the course. The Glow Golf event planned for tonight is confirmed as cancelled; the organizer will see about holding it next month.

Yes, it’s wet out there. We will open the “old 9″ but it’s less than ideal. The old 9 consists of 1-2-8-9-10-11-16-17-18 but because of the water, you have to keep to the right (by the cart path) on #2 and when you tee off #11 you have to go around behind #17 green and take the path to get to #11 green. Oh yeah, no carts - it’s walking only until further notice. So for those of you who are willing to brave the elements, be careful out there and be prepared to get your feet wet … and bring extra balls! For those of you planning to participate in the Glow Golf Saturday evening, it’s cancelled due to safety concerns. Please remember to be patient with the Pro Shop staff and don’t take your frustrations out on them – we’re all doing our best to make the best of an unpleasant situation beyond our control.

Due to all of the rain we’ve had, the river has come up quite quickly and portions of the course are inaccessible as of Friday night at 9:00 PM. If you have Tee Times booked for Saturday morning, please call the Pro Shop at 765-5800 prior to coming out to see if the course is open. If at all possible, we will at least try to have the “old” 9 open, but please call beforehand, particularly if you’re coming from any distance away. Based on the current conditions, carts will not be permitted on the course until it dries up a bit and our maintenance staff says there’s no risk of damage. We’ll post an update as we learn more.

August is upon us and as the days begin to get shorter, the Pro Shop and Kitchen hours will be scaled back accordingly starting the 16th of August. Because the Club Storage Building and Back Gate are directly influenced by the Pro Shop hours, be sure to check with the Pro Shop Staff to confirm their closing time if you plan on using either one near the end of the day. There has been some confusion over the Kitchen being open on holiday Mondays, so we want to ensure everyone is aware that we will be open on the Monday of the Labour Day Long Weekend.
Visitors who bring their power carts to the course must register them with the Pro Shop and pay a $15 trail fee – you will then be provided with a tag to display on your cart.
The Shoot-Out and Fall Ball tournaments are rapidly approaching – be sure to sign up and register your teams early in order to avoid disappointment.
Thanks for the continued feedback and suggestions – with your help the club continues to improve on a daily basis. The course is in great shape and while there are some small issues, we’re sure everyone will agree that Bruce and the folks in maintenance are doing an exceptional job. Finally, please continue to be patient and considerate with the Pro Shop and Kitchen staff as we head into a busy time of the season.

The Greenwood Golf Club staff, executive, NPF staff, and members said farewell to Mike McCorry on Monday, 26 July as he will be moving on to accept a position as the Superintendant at Annapolis Royal. It was an opportunity that Mike said he could not pass up, and he looks forward to the challenges ahead of him. We want to assure everyone that this move has absolutely nothing to do with the false rumours that the club is closing; in fact, your support this season has been tremendous and we are having a great year – the future looks bright for the GGC! Passing on their thanks for Mike’s work as the manager over the last 3 1/2 seasons were the Wing Administration Officer, Lieutenant-Colonel Smith McBride, the PSP Manager, Lisa White, the Club President, Major Tom Gorman, and the Ladies President, Betty Salzman. While the club looks for a new manager, Karen Gorman will assume the responsibilities and duties as Acting Manager. Because of this unexpected development and a perceived conflict of interest in the management of the club, the current President will be stepping down and Major Ron Kielback will be the Acting President until a formal announcement is made to appoint a new President. The staff asks for your patience and understanding as we work through this transition period; please be sure to bring any concerns or issues to our attention. In particular, please be sure to confirm your arrangements and details with Karen if you are organizing or running an upcoming tournament or other event – this holds true for tournaments planned for next season as well. We will work our hardest to ensure the season finishes as successfully as it started – with your help we are sure it will be a great year with many more to follow!
