June Pro Shop Sale
Monday, May 31st, 2010Junior Program Information Letter
Monday, May 31st, 2010Dear Junior Member;
I would like to take this time to inform you of what is coming up this summer at the Greenwood Golf Club for all of our junior members.
• The development program will start on Wednesday the 30th of June at 1:00 pm and will continue Thursday’s in July.
• Registration will be through the Pro Shop from the 9th to the 24th of June
• Parent’s need to register their children, as they will need to sign the agreement and pick up the information.
• This year we wish to add to this program by bringing in a teaching pro that can work with the more advanced junior golfers that have spent a year or so in our program in order to help them start fine tuning their game. The cost of the pro is approximately $125.00 per week and this cost will be divided between the students who sign up. I ask that you respond while registering with your interest and once I get a list I will be able to confirm the cost per student. We need commitment from each participant to take part each week the pro comes in to help us.
• On July 29th there will be a closing 9 hole tournament – Junior Girls and Boy’s Club Championship
Tournament fee of $10.00 which will include prizes and a meal (burgers, fries and pop)
Watch for a registration sheet in the clubhouse.
• We will try to organize a mentorship program for Thursday’s in August, based on demand from the Jr’s. We will have a flyer ready for pick up explaining it at registration.
• We are looking for some of our more senior junior members to volunteer to help out during the Nova Scotia Mid Amateur Golf Tournament on the weekend of June 19th & 20th; sign up sheets are on the bulletin board in the club house. Please come out a support your club.
• We are also looking for some of our more senior junior members to possibly set up a closest to the hole fundraiser for the junior program to be staffed by juniors for the men’s and women’s weekend tournaments.
• “Bring a Friend” golf day will be some time in early August. More information will be available during the clinics.
• I will also try and arrange a home at home golf day between Paragon and Greenwood. This is where we would invite junior members from Paragon to play a round of golf in Greenwood and visa versa. Once again I will need to know interest by the 23rd of June.
Sincerely
Brent Jones

19th Hole – 30 May 2010
Sunday, May 30th, 2010Golfing in the Valley this past week has been like golfing in July.
Pretty soon we will be praying for some rain for the course. Just
can’t win…we are never really happy, we want the sunshine but we
really do need some rain.
There were three teams in Clare on the weekend of May 22-23 for the
Lobster Classic and for the first time in many years we actually played
both tournament rounds…no rain….just sunshine. None of us stayed
around but looking on the net, we see that Doug Carpenter and Wendy
Richardson won 3 LG in the 2nd Division. Great weather, great time
with friends and a prize too….Life just doesn’t get any better than
that.
While we were in Clare there was a mens tournament at the course. Stu
Nauss and Ken Theriault tied for LG and agreed to share the prize
rather than have a playoff. Scott Cooper was third in the 1st Div.l The
LN prizes in the ist Div went to Bill MacDonald
(1st) Charlie Costin (2nd) and Steve Lake (3rd). In the 2Nd Division
the winners were: LG Steve Swan (1st), Nelson Mullen (2nd) and Wayne
Cathcart (3rd) and the LN prizes went to Ralph Fevens (ist Ln and
Field LN), Danny Snow (2nd ) and Bruce Pellerine (3rd). 3Rd Division
winners were: LG- Bruce Whitman (1st), Neil Peckham (2nd) and Vern
Crossman (3rd) and LN prizes went to Dave Stoddard (1st), Merle Toole
(2nd) and Frank Croucher (3rd). Congratulations to all the
winners…must have been a pretty good turnout to have 3 Divisions.
Speaking of Frankie…Swanky Frankie…did you see he made the Golf
News….taking putting lessons from Gail…..way to go Frankie.
There will be a change in Wed Night Ladies, non-members who do not
belong to another Golf Club will pay a green fee of $5.00 to play, if
you ARE a member of another CLub a nine hole green fee will
apply…..this will be the same for the Friday Night 2-Ball.
The only tournament planned for the week ending June 5th is the
Middleton Rotary have a 9:00 Shotgun start on June 4th. The rest of
the week is the usual Mens Night on June 1st, Intersection and Ladies
on Wednesday,Thursday morning Ladies at 10:00 and Friday Night 2-Ball.
Don’t forget the Mid Am is coming up June 17-20th and volunteers are
needed…sign up sheets in the hallway…see Bulletin Board.
Tuesday Night Men’s Night (June 1st) will be a 3-Man Scramble, sign up
at 2:30 for a 3:00 Tee Off. Meal to follow.
I am noticing a lot of Ball Marks on the greens…it doesn’t take much
to repair them…this is your course too…help look after it.
Bring a friend out to golf, it is $29.00 if someone is playing with a
member…can’t beat that deal. Twilight rates of $24.00 apply after
3:00 p.m…..all rates include HST.
The results of the Founders/Builders tournament will be in next
issue….that should be a fun tournament.
Until Next issue…enjoy a round of golf, keep up the pace of play,
(Keep up to the people in front, not just ahead of the people
behind!!!), replace your divots and once again…repair your ball marks
on the greens.
